Mr. Amit Misra joined The New India Assurance Company Limited as a A.A.O.(Trainee) in Mumbai in April 1987.  Since then, he has worked in various capacities, dealing both in administrative and development functions at the Operating as well as Controlling Offices at H.O. Corporate RO,  Kanpur and Delhi CBO. He was Head of offices at Bareilly and Kolkata LCBO.  Thereafter, he headed NIA ( T & T), the overseas Subsidiary at Trinidad & Tobago during Aug 2016 to Oct 2021. Upon joining at New India Head Office, he was looking after Motor TP, TP Hubs, Corporate Legal and Enterprise Risk Management, Investment operations, Internal Audit and Customer Care. Upon elevation as Executive Director, he moved to The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, Delhi in July 2024. Between March to May 2025, he held additional charge of CMD of the Company, before his superannuation in June 2025. In July 2025, he joined National Insurance Academy, Pune as Chair Professor, General Insurance.

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India, Hyderabad and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai.
